It’s as if Dotonbori was a tourist spot taken straight out of “Tidy Town” of Hayao Miyazaki’s Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch video game (or, should I say it was the other way around??). Even among the busy city streets of Osaka, there lies this hidden area of festivity and gastronomical adventures in between its tall buildings!
Getting to Dotonbori is fairly easy. After getting to check in to our AirBnB apartment, we just needed to get to Namba station from the nearest station from our apartment. Once you get to Namba station, it will just be a five-minute walk till you get to Dotonbori.
The space frame roofing at Kyoto Main Station. About to head to Osaka area to check in our apartment first before heading to Shinsaibashi/Dotonbori.
Walking to Dotonbori entrance across the street.
The first thing that welcomed us was this giant crab! haha
We skipped viewing the tourist-y area of Dotonbori, and walked straight to Shinsaibashi (they’re right next to each other) cause we wanted to have lunch first (a very late lunch, that is. haha!).
Along Shinsaibashi’s covered walkway
Had lunch at Mizuno, a famous okonomiyaki restaurant!
The takoyaki stall right next to Mizuno (okonomiyaki restaurant)
Menu right outside Mizuno while lining up for our turn
The seating was pretty cramped for all seven of us. lol! Well, the restaurant is relatively small, so we can’t really complain.
Okonomiyakiiii <3
With bonito flakes!
T’was so gooood!
After our okonomiyaki lunch, we headed back to Dotonbori to take those photos we missed out on in the early afternoon, and also, to go shopping along the streets. The place looks even more alive at night, since you get to see all the stores and massive decors lit up!
Went shopping around the area in the evening
Huge sea food decors placed around the area! Super cute! haha!
And that was it for our first few activities in Osaka! I’ll be posting about our adventures in Universal Studios Japan, and it’s going to be quite the photo-heavy post, but do stay tuned for that! ♥
If you missed out on my Kyoto posts, which is the first half of the trip, you can view them over here:
