Last days in my Japan trips always leave me feeling a bit down, but at the same time, extremely pumped up to maximize my remaining days in the country. At this time, I felt like I already had a good fill of what Nagoya had to offer, and hoped that I could come back again one day to experience whatever I may have missed out on.
The day prior, my mom saw an advertisement in the subway station promoting the Port of Nagoya’s Aquarium. We didn’t really know what to do on the last day, so we though of checking it out.
Fast forward to the day itself, we noticed that the train going straight to the port was fairly empty. We thought to ourselves, “Wow! How lucky of us to get to pick from all these empty seats!” hahaha! Little did we know, the Aquarium was actually closed for the entire day! hahaha!
Well, we always know how to make positive of any kind of situation! So, we ended up taking a stroll around the area. We also took this time to snap some photos of the scenery since the weather was pretty nice. The area around the Port of Nagoya is a very laid-back kind of place, so it felt very refreshing to just be breathing in the ocean air and to be feeling the freezing winter cold cool weather.
Cute postal penguin!
Saturn pullover I bought from SPINNS JP
After some sight-seeing at Nagoya Port, we went back to the subway station to head back to O-su Kannon. We wanted to spend our last whole day in Nagoya revisiting the shops we liked the most there.
Bought some drinks for afternoon refreshment.
Had lots of snacks, such as this danggo from O-su, to make up for our missed lunch.
I didn’t know there was another Body Line branch in Nagoya. I thought they only had a single store in Harajuku, Tokyo. Remembered all my lolita friends from Kawaii PH after seeing another Body Line! ♥
We haven’t tried branching out onto the other side alleys of O-su. After exploring a different area, we stumbled upon Super Potato! I was probably the only one excited about this, since I was probably the only one there who was into video games! haha! And, I’ve been meaning to visit it during our trip to Tokyo last year, but didn’t have the time to see it when we went to Akihabara. I was surprised to find out that they also had a branch in Nagoya’s O-su Kannon area!
*heavy breathing*
I couldn’t help myself! After seeing the prices, I ended up buying myself a Nintendo DS Lite! ;u; huhuhu (no regrets!) If you’re wondering about the pricing, the Nintendo DS Lite probably cost me around 2,000 PHP. I had to purchase the battery charger separately. It was only a good opportunity for me to purchase unique DS games that you can only buy in Japan. I ended up buying this game called “Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors,” which is more of a psychology/mystery visual novel with slight point-and-click escape the room segments.
If I had more time (and money lol) I probably would have looked around more and purchased maybe another item or two. I honestly really wanted to buy a Dreamcast, since it’s something of nostalgic value to me and my family. We used to really love playing games such as Sonic Adventure, Powerstone, Sonic Shuffle, Evolution, etc. Getting a Sony Playstation 1 would be great too in its own way–so much childhood memories with that console. ♥
Skipping straight to the evening, my mom and I headed back to Nagoya Station, while our family friends had separate plans. So, we decided to split up from then. My mom and I went to have dinner at Denny’s near Nagoya Station. At this point, I was starting to feel a bit sentimental about the fact that it was going to be our last dinner in Nagoya. :'(
I ordered something that looked like hamburger steak, but it tasted more like seafood mixed into the patty..?
The morning after was a bit of a rush. We had to quickly check out of our AirBnb and head to the Meitetsu Nagoya Station to catch a train to the airport.
Our seats at the Meitetsu train line with the ticket holders
My new Nintendo DS Lite that I bought at Super Potato. I decided to test out the game while waiting out the train ride to the Airport.
We safely made it to the airport with more than enough time to check in our luggage. We took this time to check out the nearby Starbucks, since they were still selling the seasonal Sakura Blossom and Strawberry drinks.
They had really cute seasonal tumbler designs as well!
I was so happy that I finally got to try this! ♥ It tasted really good! It was more of a mix of white chocolate, and strawberry flavor, though. I wasn’t so sure if I tasted any hints of sakura blossom in it. I would have expected it to have hints of cherry flavor or something. Tasted good, nonetheless!
So, I ended my trip with this beverage! haha! Nagoya was such a great experience. Even though I started out with not knowing what exactly to expect (since people seem to promote Tokyo and Osaka/Kyoto more), I left knowing that I wanted to come back for more. The whole place just exudes a very friendly atmosphere. If I were to make a comparison, I’d say Nagoya is a more laid back version of Tokyo, since it is still very urbanized, but it doesn’t feel as busy as Tokyo.
All in all, I’d definitely recommend you guys giving a visit to Nagoya a try! I think it really offers an all-around balanced experience of Japanese culture–from the food, temples and shrines, shopping, and much more!
